Dinosaur School Program

The students, staff, and administration of Griffin Elementary thoroughly enjoyed the Dinosaur Rocks program. The interactive program which was well-aligned with curriculum gave students an opportunity to participate in a “dig” to find and classify their fossils, rocks, and minerals. The presenters were well-informed and had a great camaraderie with the students and teachers. Each fossil used in the program was interesting and sparked inquiry and higher level questioning.

Our campus would recommend this program to any campus interested in bringing in an archeology/paleontology related assembly to your students. FOSSIL DIG Your School Assembly includes a genuine Fossil Dig. Your students will have the opportunity to discover and keep genuine fossils. As they participate in this hands-on activity, they will be awed as they uncover genuine dinosaur bone, shark teeth, ammonites, petrified wood and more. Best of all, they will be taking some fossils home, the start of their own collection!

In 2012, Vail Child Care Center was invited to be a part of the “Dinosaur School” program. The Dinosaur Social Skills and Problem Solving curriculum “is a child training curriculum that strengthens children’s social, emotional, and academic competencies such as understanding and communicating feelings, using effective problem solving strategies, managing anger, practicing friendship and conversational skills, as well as appropriate classroom behaviors” (adapted from The Incredible Years). The children meet twice per week and explore the Dinosaur School units with their classroom puppets “Wally and Dina. Miss Pole Dance Torrent. ” The units cover a variety of topics such as anger management and problem solving which children explore with role playing, games, songs, stories, and analyzing short videos.

This addition to our social emotional curriculum has further prepared our students for their formal educational years.
